For our visitors, the first day begins with your arrival at Entebbe airport. Our representatives from Equatorial Wild Safaris will be waiting for you, to welcome and to guide you to the ultimate welcome home experience. The representatives will safely transfer you to your booked accommodation in Entebbe. There you will get rest, shake off that flight fatigue and rejuvenate your body and spirit for the amazing adventure ahead of you.
We depart for the most beautiful and protected area in Uganda; Entebbe Murchison Falls National Park. This is the largest and oldest conservation area in Uganda and it hosts approximately 76 species of mammals and over 451 birds. This Park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley and it is bisected by the Victoria Nile which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall hence creating the famous and most beautiful Murchison Falls; the centre piece of the park. It provides Uganda’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles and is home to many aquatic birds that have made this place their permanent home. It is that wonderful. We make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for lunch. It is located 176 km North of Kampala on Gulu High way. It is the only place you will see Rhinos in the wild. This place is famous for its Rhino trekking, birding, nature walks and relaxation. It is a calm and peaceful place. In the Afternoon, we arrive at Budongo forest where we are introduced to the very rich bird life of Uganda. You will be guided in to taking a lovely guided forest and leisure walk before dinner and an overnight rest.
This day is a Full day dedication to birding in Budongo forest reserve. This reserve is to a birder what ingredients are to a chef. This place is residence to all sorts of melodies from very many bird species and it is approximated to have 360 different species of birds. Budongo is famous for its biodiversity in Birds and is home for the rare Puvel’s Illadopses and the yellow footed fly catcher which are an endemic species to this area. Other species include the Chocolate baked kingfishers, chestnut crowned cuckoo, yellow browned camaroptera, black headed paradise flycatcher, slender billed Greenbul, green crombec and forest Robin. After so much birding, you will retire to dinner and sleep overnight.
On the fourth day of this adventure, we depart for Murchison Falls and head towards Fort Portal where we shall have lunch on the way. Fort Portal is an amazing and lovely town that rests in the shadow of the Fabled Mountains of the moon and it is famous for its tea plantations so it is no surprise that your eyes will feast on a lot of green. It is here in Fort Portal, amidst such beauty and hospitality that we shall have dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast, we drive to Semliki National Park for Birding. The scenic winding road will lead us through green mountains dense with vegetation and offers you magnificent view at the river Semliki and Congo. There are more than 400 species of birds protected in the area including many West African species such as four different horn bill species that are nowhere else seen in Uganda. Also the red Rumped Tinker Bird and Palm Greenul are endemics in the afternoon. We shall move through the national park trekking In search of these sounds and sights of the different birds that will appeal to our ears and sights. With our five sense we shall enjoy the different melodies which we shall use to identify different birds and with a help of an accommodating and very knowledgeable guide, you will surely have an unforgettable birding experience. We shall then Return to Fort Portal and continue to the dense forest of Kibale National Park where we shall have Dinner and over night.
Exploration of the crater lakes is the first agenda on the menu of this day. After taking breakfast we shall head out in search of the many different crator lakes that have made their home with in these dominant hills with stunning views. These lakes are so serene and such a beautiful sight and the thought of how they were made will sink very overwhelming images into your head and with a very good guide, it will almost be as if you were there at their creation. At lake Nkurumba, you will take a hike to encounter different species of birds. This is an experience for that will give you body expercise so we advise you to get yourself confortable but strong walking shoes that can withstand the hiking and almost make this activity seem effortless and flawless for you. After the hike, Return to the lodge for lunch and transfer to bugodi swamp. This wetland is a great attraction for birders with over 200 bird species including the popular great blue turaco. Here, we shall get dinner and get some well deserved rest that will let you rejuvenate your body for the rest of the adventurous days ahead.
After a delicious breakfast, we calmly transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, have a delicious lunch served in the most African way with very hospitable hostesses whose food will hypnotise you into wanting more and more. Later, we shall relax at the pool before going on a game drive in search of the first wild life including warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks, elephants and a variety of birds. Game drives are relaxing but they too have an adrenaline run attached to them. One cannot know what to expect and see that is why we offer you the best time for such drives which is at such calm hours when the sun is also calm. At such times, the animals are free and come out of their hiding places. After the drive, dinner and overnight.
The day begins early as we start with a morning game drive and head to the mating ground of the Uganda Kob. This is not only an area for excellent game viewing but also offers plenty for birders to feast their eyes on. Kobs are ecologically restricted, preferring low lying flats that are mostly free of the annoying season extremes. They too love to stay at least near a permanent water source. Therefore, their breeding only takes place with in an area controlled by an individual territorial male. However, unlike other animal species, the kob prefers to personalise its breeding ground by making it more permanent and sometimes if these grounds are not encroached on or destroyed, they can go over 50 years. Later, we move through open grassy plains which support large flocks of white and Abdims Stork as well as the spectacular saddle billed stork during the migratory season in the afternoon. We take on a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Watch hundreds of hippos, elephaants and many migratory bird species such as the Grey heded gulis, African skimmers, water Dikkops and the Great White and Pink-Baked Pelican. After watching these birds to your heart’s content, we shall then transfer back for Dinner and overnight.
Start the day fresh with breakfast and then Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will have a walk and trek through the forest in search of bird species such as Black cracks, long toed clover, African wattled plover, and African jacana. Woolly-neck black storks, Ducks and Geese and other grassland species such as black belly bustard and African crake. These are some of the species we might see. We then proceed to Bwindi, arriving, settling and getting comfortable in our accommodation
Ten days into this trip, we take you through Birding the main trail looking out for Albertine rift endemics such as the black bee eater, short tailed warbler, White tailed ant thrush, kivu ground, Thrush and other species such as Equatorial Akalat. Grey throated Barbets, Tullibergs, woodpecker, blackfaced rufous warbler, Gosbeck weaver, Brown caped weaver and the yellow mantled weaver. We come back for lunch. In the afternoon, we go birding at the Munyanga river trail. This trail is found in the valley below Buhoma, an ideal walkable distance to view birds. After, we return to Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we then head to Ruhija sector-Mubwindi swamp-this is famous for some of the difficult to find of all rift endemics including broadbill regal sunbird and ancers robin chart dwarf honey guide among others. Later, we have dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and head to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, have a boat ride on the lake looking out for water bird species among others in the park. Lake Mburo is another rich bird home in Uganda and it is famous for its rather rich bird experience with variety of birds taking camp in this place. When here, you will not lack in any birding adventures that might cross your mind throughout the flow of events. After, we shall too set camp here for Dinner and overnight.
Our birding adventures will then take us back to Kampala and on the way we shall pass the Equator where we shall stop for some photos and any souvenir shopping of your choice. You will be allowed to savour the moment and take in the whole Equator experience with the knowledge at the back of your mind that you are actually balancing with in two hemispheres. Late in the afternoon, arrival in Kampala for overnight.
Breakfast and then head to Jinja arriving in time for lunch and natural walk in Mabira forest. Mabira forest is a dense forest with green vegetation that is thick and too natural. The trees are almost as creation and give the environment of a land far away from the civilisation in today’s era. We shall move through the forest, looking out for bird species along primates that we may encounter along the way. After which, we head back to Kampala thereafter dinner and overnight.
Early in the morning, we shall transfer to Mabamba Swamp 50km west to Kampala home for the Rare Shoe bill stork. This swamp is one of the best places to spot the rare shoebill stork even though other species too have made home of this place. These species are such as, the Allen’s Gallinule, Grey heroes, African water rail, Goliath, Purple and a variety of Egrets and ducks. The best way to enjoy the rich birdlife is by canoe. You will sit on a narrow pointed boat which can only move by propelling it by paddles. For some it will be your first time, but worry not, you will only move if you are accompanied by a guide and an expert in canoeing who will gracefully sail you through this birding experience. After this activity, we continue to Entebbe airport for your international flight. Just like Francesca Marciano once said, “When you leave Africa, as the plane lifts, you feel that you’re more than leaving a continent, you’re leaving a state of mind. Whatever awaits you at the other end of the journey will be a different order of existence.” But with Uganda, you will leave with a great share of our selfless love and hospitality from our people.
